Account books, 1792-1805.

Consists of two daybooks kept from 1792 to 1805 and a ledger kept from 1795 to 1804 for a general store. A wide range of products is mentioned, including wool hats, furs, corn, sets of bed screws, books, nails, shawls, hair, brooms, textiles, binding, sugar, rum, molasses, indigo, needles, buttons, chocolate, lead, and indigo. The volumes also document orders taken from customers and placed with manufacturers. Information from daybook entries was transferred to the ledger.

Samuel Jackson was born on January 21, 1765. In 1791, he resided in Catawissa, Columbia Co., Pa. For the period of time covered by these account books, he appears to have operated a general store in Northumberland Co., Pa. A few years before the War of 1812, Jackson moved to York, now Toronto, Canada, where he invested money in a real estate. Jackson was married to Hannah J. Davis; they had nine sons and two daughters.
